acrylic on board 11x14 inches
I recently decided on the challenge of painting a winter scene. I had never thought that covering my painting surface with white can bring out emotions that other colors do (white being bland). I was excited to try something new but also a little intimidated and reluctant by the prospect of capturing the beauty of winter.
Thanks to one fine day in December of 2022 after a light fluffy snowfall during the night, I had to go out for an errand. There was no traffic not even a soul on the street, me, my thoughts, sunshine and bright blue sky. Never ever I had noticed or realized the sheer beauty of winter. The trees looked like vanilla ice cream cone and the rest of the landscape covered in whipped cream. I guess a good nights sleep and warm temperature can do your mind good in winter. So I decided to take on the challenge.
I started some research and gathered inspiration from winter scenes and the works of other artists, kids playing street hockey in a snowy day in my neighbourhood etc.
I used cool color (ultramarine blue) on white area so that the painting does not look flat; because majority of the surface is covered in white applying ultramarine blue give the painting depth.
My first time painting a winter scene was fun and rewarding experience and I am satisfied with the final result. There are more paintings of winter to come.
